Boulder Star Fundraiser

On Monday, March 22, 2021, police sirens, one after the other, wailed past my apartment and soon afterwards, I received a call from my landlord to stay inside; someone at a grocery store up the street was shooting at people and we needed to maintain our safety. Little did we know what a tragedy—and how much national attention—would befall our tight-knit town of Boulder, CO.

We are #BoulderStrong, and yet it’s going to take a long time to recover from this horrific crime. I visited the location of the shooting and immediately felt the need to paint something. Inspiration for this piece came from our beloved Boulder star, a lighted star that sits above our beautiful town every year around Christmastime.

I created a digital copy of this painting as well as a sticker and sold both on my Etsy site as well as in a local store in Boulder, with all proceeds going directly to the Community Foundation Boulder County, the Colorado Healing Fund, and the Colorado Organization for Victim Assistance. Gratefully, we sold out! We raised hundreds of dollars for our community and it meant so much to do my part to help heal our town and those directly affected by this tragedy.
