Growing up with the Rodeo

My late father was David DeVary, a Western artist who painted cowboys and cowgirls framed by metallic leafing (see his work, here: www.daviddevarystudio.com). Growing up, there were many summers when we went to the Santa Fe Rodeo so that my dad could photograph the cowboys and girls as they got ready for the festivities, capturing images he’d use for paintings later on. I loved my time around the horses and all the action and didn’t realize how much I missed it until I moved to Colorado. After being away from “Western Culture” for so long in Los Angeles, I’ve fallen in love with rodeos again and have now made it a summer tradition for myself to attend a rodeo and to take photos reminiscent of what I grew up seeing with my family!
